The current-generation Mini uses a range of four-cylinder gas and diesel engines produced by a joint venture between BMW and French automaker PSA Peugeot Citroen and it looks like that will continue into the foreseeable future. The two companies’ chairmen, Norbert Reithofer and Philippe Varin, signed an agreement today to continue the partnership and build new Euro-VI-compliant versions of the engines. The powerplants will continue to propel both Minis and various Peugeot and Citroen vehicles.
The combined production of the engine family over the past four years amounts to over 1.3 million units. The partners have been pleased enough with the program that they will look at other systems to collaborate on.
